Rug Care: How to look after your gorgeous rug

Kirkle Rugs are made with the finest New Zealand sourced wool. Premium New Zealand yarns are chosen for their purity, luster as well as their durability and strength. With proper care your rug should last a lifetime.

Rug / Carpet Care : In order to keep your rug in good condition, we recommend the following care instructions:

  • Vacuuming: vacuuming regularly and thoroughly at least once a week will remove soil and dirt particles before they become embedded in the base of the rug (when your rug is new you may find that some loose fibres come out of the rug. This is a natural result of the tufting process and will cease in a short time). For best results, use a cleaner with a rotating brush or combination beater/brush bar. For smaller, lighter rugs an occasional shake outdoors is recommended, to loosen and remove any soil residue embedded in the base.
  • Spot and spill removal: stains can be prevented by acting quickly when spills occur. Blot up liquids with paper towels or absorbent cloth. Scoop up solids first, then treat the spot according to the instructions on the selected cleaning products for carpets. Always work inwards from the edge of the stain to prevent spreading. Do not rub or over wet the carpet pile. This may cause separation of the backing, shrinkage, discoloration and odour.
  • For oily or greasy stains: use dry-cleaning solvent or methylated spirits, or an aerosol carpet stain remover for greasy stains.
  • For water based stains: use a solution of a carpet shampoo or wool-care solution (for example Woolite, Woolmix) or an aerosol carpet spray for non-greasy stains.*

    * If linen fibre has been used in your rug, we recommend using a dry-cleaning powder to remove any spots.
  • Unusual spills: we recommend contacting a commercial carpet cleaner.
