Inspired by the visual stimulus of growing up around the world, kiwi designer and artist Kirsty Black (aka Kirkle) founded Kirkle Design - typically it is this stimulus which forms the basis for her designs.
In 2005, having taken 2 years off from the design scene in London, where she worked as a graphic designer, Kirsty moved to Seoul where she became involved with the latest advances in textile printing. Realising that there was a gap in the market for funky, good quality silk ties she decided to create her own. This led to the launch of Kirkle Design and her first range of handmade, 100% pure silk ties.
Upon relocation to New Zealand Kirsty continued to experiment with a range of mediums that suited her design aesthetic and interest in modern architecture, interior design and abstract art. Eager to expand Kirkle Design to include products that are made in New Zealand and used sustainable resources, eye-catching 100% pure New Zealand wool rugs were introduced, along with a range of limited edition wall art / giclee prints - perfect for today’s contemporary homes or commercial setting.
Like her art the rugs capture a snapshot of brief moments in everyday life, reduced to a series of abstract lines and shapes, allowing viewers to draw on their unique experiences and imagination.
